Silvae keeps your plants local-first, with a free account for sync.

The short version

Silvae asks for an email address (or Google sign-in) to create your account, so your plants and care history follow you across devices. Your plant data lives on your device first and syncs to our database in the background. Location is entirely optional and never leaves your device. There are no ads, no behavioural tracking, and nothing is ever sold.

Your account

Creating an account is required to use Silvae. You can sign up with an email address and password, or with Google sign-in. We store your email address and, optionally, a display name, via Firebase Authentication.

Your plant data

The plants you add, their care schedules, and your watering/feeding history are stored locally on your device first (so the app works offline), then mirrored to our Firestore database tied to your account, so the same data appears on every device you sign into.

Growth-journal photos and notes are currently stored on your device only, they are not uploaded to our servers.

Location (optional)

If you choose to set your location, either by using your device's GPS or searching for a city, Silvae uses it to fetch local weather so care recommendations account for real conditions. Your location is stored only on your device, we never attach it to your account or send it to our own database. It is sent to the weather and geocoding services below, purely to answer the request.

Photos submitted for plant identification

Silvae's "Plant Doctor" photo-ID feature sends your photo to our server, which forwards it to Plant.id and/or PlantNet (third-party plant identification services) to identify the species and flag possible health issues. We do not keep a copy of your photo after the request; we cache the identification result (not the image) for up to 90 days, keyed to a fingerprint of the photo, not to your account, so a repeated photo doesn't need reprocessing.

What we don't do

• No advertising, no ad networks or advertising identifiers.
• No analytics or behavioural tracking inside the app.
• No selling or renting of personal data, to anyone, ever.
• No public profiles or social features that expose your data to other users.

Third-party services

• Firebase / Google Cloud, hosts your account and plant data (Authentication + Firestore).
• Vercel, hosts our server-side API that proxies weather and photo-ID requests.
• Plant.id and PlantNet, process photos you submit for plant identification.
• Open-Meteo and BigDataCloud, process location coordinates to return weather and place names, free, keyless services with no account tied to the request.
• App stores, Google Play distributes the Android app. Your store account and any purchases (Silvae itself is free) are handled by Google.

None of these are used for advertising, and none of them receive your data for their own purposes beyond fulfilling the request.

Children

Silvae is a general-audience plant-care utility, not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction).

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account and every plant, photo and care record tied to it at any time, entirely in-app, from You → Delete account and data. This is immediate and irreversible; there's no need to email us to request it.

Changes to this policy

If Silvae's data practices change, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date, before the app changes. Last updated August 2026.
